Our NFL Ratings Pledge

Our Pledge is simple. Many of you know we have a major gripe with the Madden Ratings.

Our stance has always been that they're too high and it hurts gameplay in countless ways in addition to totally imbalancing progression in Franchise. The ratings system also seems to be one based on highlights, hype, too much player influence and almost totally lacks consistency. We rate players based on their production (stats) since it is the one truly objective aspect of sports that can tell you how effective a player is being. We look at the last three years of numbers when available (which we've linked so you can also examine them for yourselves) and rate a player based on those measurables to reward consistency and to avoid what we often describe as one-year-wonders, although a high level of play early in their career will cause a player to be rated higher/faster than someone who is a 6-year vet and finally breaks through with a good season. Its also our belief that instead of one person trying to rate every player in the NFL, it makes more sense to have one scout per team a person who is objective, well-versed in our rating system and can really tell you what players are improving, declining, average, good or elite. That's our pledge to you: Consistency, Accuracy and Objectivity.

Here's the Ratings Legend we follow.  If you're onboard and would like to be a Team Scout for us, don't hesitate to email us at magww@live.com

  1. I agree with most of your ratings, however, there are many undrafted free agents that are Pro Bowlers and better. I don't think anyone playing in the NFL should be less than 60 OVR. They already made the cut that separated them from them from other failed (good) college players. The NFL is the best of the best after all.

  3. the first thing we'd recommend is expuning the horrible Madden system from your mind where lower-rated players act foolishly. we dont advocate anything like that. also cleanse your mind of their scale--which is horrible too. keep in mind a better disparity in ratings allows a better separation of players. most players would still rate from 50-79. special teams players may be on NFL rosters but most dont have the ability consistently contribute on offense or defense. this rating system displays that.

  4. also, we dont put alot of stock in draft position like Donny Moore does. there are as many high draft picks that are busts that are standouts. we advocate a players rating matching his production--regardless of where he's drafted.
