Why the Madden Patch won't cut it

While we certainly appreciate Madden's team trying to address more issues with their current title, we'll pass on playing the game until we hear some very critical issues are being addressed. This patch includes the infamous offline "rain glitch", the embarassingly over-effective QB sneak and even some things we weren't aware of; like the ability to make defenders in a QB Spy assignment blitz by pump-faking. Our problem is there are still too many core gameplay issues that are still shamefully bad. Case in point:

1. Defensive Shading still doesn't work. Could we get a fix for this? Be a nice way to address slants and corner routes when we KNOW they're coming.

2. Man Align is broken. Wanna fix this? When we use the command our defenders need to move into a position where they're DIRECTLY across from the player they're defending. Until then, we'll continue to see instances where unscrupulous players are able to abuse gameplay by quick-snapping and throwing to strong-side players who's defender is STILL on the weakside of the formation even after we use man align and are totally out of the play.

3. Finesse DEs are still under-effective when in comparison to pass rushers with power moves. This needs addressing pronto as some of the league's best pass rushers aren't being displayed realistically.

4. User Control is too dominant. The fact that DBs are clueless when defending a user-controlled receiver make the need to tone-down user control a priority. We shouldn't be able to get an interception at will with our defenders, and the fact that we can negate double and triple coverage and make elite defenders look silly needs fixing pronto.

5. Short Yardage is horrible. Its laughable to see how effective plays like the QB Sneak and FB Dive are in Madden and then see them struggle to gain yardage in reality. These plays are more about dominance at the line of scrimmage than play design. The Toss Play is another example of play design that defenses struggle to adjust to in Madden, but doesn't dominate in reality. Madden falls flat on its face here.

6. Defensive Integrity is broken. This is quite simply one of the biggest issues. Why won't our second CB follow the receiver he's assigned to when the offense goes into a twins formation? Want to free up your best reciever in Madden 12? No problem, have him inside on a twins formation and have at it. There's no reason our CB should be hanging out near the TE leaving a LB to cover a WR (one of football's worst mismatches) and on that note, why can't we have our CBs stay wide if we so choose? The no-man's land area they reside in when the offense doesn't deploy someone to their side hurts our defense in more ways than we can count. Man Lock anyone?

We'd love to get our football fix addressed with the NBA lockout but these vital gameplay issues make the game a haven for imbalances and exploits that cheesers can't wait to get their hands on. Let us know when they release Patch #3.
