What do Hardcore 2K fans want to see?

As excited as we were regarding the Complete All-Star Weekend news, many hardcore fans thought they'd hear something that was more core gameplay related. Anyone that has access to our Community Wishlist knows we wanted to see a full All-Star weekend for some time, but if you'd like to see something different, here's your chance to let us know about it.

We've decided to list some of the issues many hardcore players  have shared with us and list them on a poll that you can vote on and let your voice be heard. Tired of poor online play, defense or inconsistent ratings? Tell us about it.

THE ISSUES

1. Many have complained about fastbreaks for some time. The problems appear to be rooted in the fact that defenders deflect the ball much too easily and offensive players don't run their lanes wide enough, essentially "clogging" the break.

2. We all know defense in 2K needs work, and not in the let's-make-blocks-and-steals-easier-way, either. After the horrible sliding, too-high 3-point percentages and the still-too-effective pump fakes we need more balance. Many of us would like to see more of a defensive focus that includes a Defensive Stick, the ability to intercept the ball, play physical defense without fouling, the return of ball denial (better balanced of course) the defensive positioning that results in offensive fouls and a Defensive Square Up. The NBA is more about position defense and making shots harder than it is about every possession blocks/steals. Lets see this in gameplay and show Good and Elite defenders like Tony Allen, Iguodala and Metta World Peace some love.

3. While the rating system has a great scale (40-90). Hardcore fans have complained about the lack of attention to detail and consistency for years. For too long, only the high profile teams/players have benefited ratings-wise and outdated ratings are abundant (see Gilbert Arenas for proof). Could it be time for an entire team of ratings people like our blog is trying to organize? Guys like BedwardRoy and Rashidi are more than qualified.

4. The Dreaded Speed Issue continues to let guys like Kendrick Perkins run down lightning-quick guards like Tony Parker on the fastbreak. Its time for it to stop.

5. Online Play is the 15,000 pound elephant in the room. If today's announcement had been the return of Online Lobbies and Crews we're confident there would have been random episodes of grown men doing the cabbage patch at work nationwide. Rarely has a game done so well to emulate a sport failed so horribly online. Online play must be working from day one, be feature-heavy, seamless, and most of all must provide separate areas for Arcade, Casual and Simulation players.

6. For years players have wanted the ability to vary the types of passes they deliver because the AI doesn't always let them use the proper pass in the right situation--even with the better passing players. Instances where the ball goes to the wrong recipient are sources of intense frustration as well.

7. Nothing can change gameplay more than the ability to interrupt animations like the spin dunk, hopstep and other flavor-of-the-month exploits with good defense/positioning and turn them into offensive fouls, bad shots and out of control attempts at the basket. For so long certain animations have equaled success and those that knew how to trigger them reigned supreme. While this is a technical feat who's difficulty defies description, its also necessary for offensive and defensive balance. Hopefully we'll see it soon.

Well those are our poll choices--you can select three. Share this with as many of your friends as you like. We're looking forward to seeing the results.
