Should Protect Ball be STATIC?

So I was talking to a friend the other day who plays 2K and he mentioned how he was struggling to call plays in some situations. His response: "You know Protect Ball doesn't work, if you're calling a play at the top of the key you're just a sitting duck for steal spam." Now obviously it does work, but he's got a point. Opponents can still steal the ball when you're in Protect and that should NOT be the case. Why? Because PB is strategic and more importantly is the counter to reaching--and H2H play should always, always reward using counters correctly.

In short, these kinds of things simply can't happen.

Steal attempts while the opponent is in Protect Ball should result in fouls or the defender lunging badly out of defensive position. ONE or THE OTHER, No more Neutral Outcomes where guys can swipe away at the ball but stay in perfect defensive position.

Because in a sense he's right. While I mitigated this issue last year by learning to call my plays before I even cross the timeline AND continuously moving while in protect ball--that's asking an awful lot. What about players who aren't familiar with their offense? Its not easy to call a play and simultaneously protect the ball....I mean, don't you want us to enjoy these wonderful playbooks? Its just puzzling that a simulation would pour so many resources into playbooks would then overly augment the ability to spam steal while users are trying to call plays. That's just weird. Keep in mind the second H2H commandment is Require The Same Level of Skill from each User, we can't demand offensive users to hold six buttons with one hand while all defensive guys have to do is hit square.

But it made me think, should Protect Ball be static? Wouldn't that make it more user-friendly and free our fingers up for doing other stuff? Follow me for a sec. Think about how you can crouch in shooters, ok? Think about it: the crouch stance is STATIC...you don't have to hold R2 to to stay crouched--you just stay crouched. The best part? If you sprint you automatically leave crouch, which would really work well in NBA 2K. That way users could move around with their body in between the ball and the defender kinda like Magic and Penny used to. That frees up their hands to call plays or even blow a defenders doors off if they see fit....because dribble moves would cancel out Protect Ball as well.

Welp. What say you? Should Protect Ball be static? Thats all I got for today gang. Until next time.
